As I mentioned yesterday, I’m interested in finding “tiny homes” or “small homes” in Indianapolis. Today, I researched several sites to see what was being offered to the buying public searching for tiny homes, studios, sheds. There are several companies producing prefabricated small structures with primarily modernist exterior finishes and minimalist interior finishes. They are located on the Pacific coast and Texas. The basic price range for an open space with electric only seems to be in the $7k-$10k range including a basic foundation. It would seem to me that a locally designed and site built small structure should be able to beat that price point. I must admit that I have not done any material take offs or labor estimates to back up that observation. Where Are the Tiny Houses In Indy?

I’ve spent the last forty five years building thousands of buildings — homes, apartments, remodels, rehabs, historic restorations. I now find my mind turning toward very small structures and their various uses. Tiny homes, studios, work sheds, playhouses, mother in laws all present interesting opportunities. Does this strike a chord with anyone else? From what I see on social media, thousands of people are creating small homes for themselves that help conserve their personal capital and provide them shelter.
